Snowshoe Thompson

Snowshoe Thompson was a REAL, shur-nuff hero that carried the mail into the high Sierras from 1856 until 1876.  Despite the nickname, he did not use snowshoes.  Rather, he used a pair of 10-foot cross-country skis that he carved for himself.

Here's the story, on YouTube, by Theodore Turbolizard, who was running for congress. last year.

The tune playing is Tennessee Ernie Ford's "Snowshoe Thompson."   Erie's write-up on wiki is very interesting.  The backup band is Cliffie Stone's band, featuring Jimmy Bryant on Lead Guitar and Speedy West on Steel Guitar.

Here on YouTube is Jack Bass, dressed in a fur-lined parka, doing the same song!!
