If you remember Gunsmoke on the radio, you're almost as old as I am!   William Conrad played Marshall Dillon, and I can still remember that voice!   

You can listen here, on Radio Lovers.    Notice that the theme is the same as the TV show!  (Wonder who that guitarist was!)

"I'm Matt Dillon -- US Marshal --  the first man they look for, and the last man they want to meet!"   ISN'T THAT GREAT??!!

William Conrad played Matt Dillon on the radio. Somehow I found out that he was pretty large -- and that's the reason he didn't get the role on TV.  James_Arness (coming from The Thing from Another World) got the TV role.

I thought maybe Conrad would get the role of The Fat Man, but J. Scott Smart (who played him on the radio) got that part in a movie.  (Take a look at the cast!!!)  I guess it never made it to TV.
