Marie Sharp's Hot Sauces

Marie Sharp's is a Belizean success story, full of unrealized potential.

Maria was a local cook, noted for her prowess with local dishes.  She experimented with hot sauce and discovered that shredded carrot gave the sauce an interesting color and a particularly thick texture.  She began selling bottles of the sauce to friends and neighbors and demand soon exceeded supply.  She expanded to a little factory, and soon the sauce was selling all over the country.

The local story (in Belize) is that one of her helpers stole the recipe and took it off to Costa Rica, where some marketers set up a company called Belindas, which marketed a copy in the US.  (Where it is still marketed.)

The real story, told here, is a lot more complicated than that, but the essence is that Melindas is actually a ripoff product.   If you look at the Melinda's website, you can read between the lines.

I buy Marie Sharps here.
