Jayhawks. Quantrill's
Raiders were the legendary training ground for Jesse
James and his gang.. Their
Yankee counterparts were the Kansas
Jayhawkers. (They are the bad guys at the start of Clint
Eastwood's The Outlaw Josey
Wales.) The football team of Kansas University is The
Jayhawks.(right) Imagine my dismay to discover that the Jayhawk is not

Kansas is full of historical towns!! Each
one undoubtedly has a festival sometime during the year.
I
lived in Kansas in the early sixties -- married a Kansas girl. It was a
nice place, farm country, certainly not Western. That was then... this is
now.
