Colorado

My old stompin' grounds, from 1970 to 1999.

Colorado is very western in attitude and geography, altho many of the folks there came from California and think like Californians.   When I first lived there, I thought of myself more as a Mountaineer than a Cowboy.

There is a difference, but it's pretty subtle.  I can recommend a book -- rather a series -- that may help you to understand the difference.

Brules is a shur-nuff mountain man who goes down into Comanche country and has a series of unforgettable adventures.  Reading Harry Combs' series of books gave me a lot of insights into the "Mountain Man" mystique and the differences between them and the "plainsmen" we think of now as cowboys.

Here in the desert, I think more about the weather.  It is actually more intrusive.  In Colorado we used to say "If you don't like the weather... wait a minute!"   I thought maybe that was true here, but actually, you just hope it will change most of the time.

+ Pray for rain

+ Pray for clouds, to cool the 110 degree (in the sun) temp down!

+ Pray that it won't rain, when you're driving some road that's full of dry washes that turn into rivers

You can see that I've gotten more religious here in Arizona!
