Appaloosa
Over the years, Robert B.
Parker has been my favorite author. He has written over 50 novels,
mostly about Spenser, the Boston Private Investigator, hero of the TV
Series, Spenser for Hire.
Last year, I discovered he was writing westerns... stumbled over Resolution
checked it out and read it. Then I found Gunman's Rhapsody
and
discovered it was about Wyatt Earp and Tombstone!! Oh happy day!!

Looking for more, I found Appaloosa
.
It is actually the first in a series of Novels about Virgil Cole and Everett
Hitch, a pair of lawmen for hire. Parker captures the flavor and spirit of
the old west, but maintains his style of short chapters, mostly snappy dialog,
and action that always leaves you with a vision of "the way it was."
Most recently, I discovered that Ed Harris picked up Appaloosa
and made a movie out
of it!!. You can buy it, but I have it on hold at the library, and should be
watching it in a week or so. Here's what IMDB says about
it, with some
clips and trailers to watch.
Now that I know what Hitch looks like, I'm re-reading
Resolution. Wonderful!!!
Newer:
Resolution, IMHO, actually has a more satisfying plot than Appaloosa.
The third book in the series is Brimstone
, and our library doesn't have
it yet!
